How to Set a Wallpaper on Android (Samsung One UI & Stock Android)
Android doesn't have one universal wallpaper flow. Samsung's One UI, Google's Pixel launcher, and other stock Android skins each handle it slightly differently. The good news: every version follows the same basic pattern - open your image, tell the system where to put it (lock screen, home screen, or both), and confirm.
This guide covers the two most common paths: Samsung One UI (Galaxy S, Z Flip, Z Fold) and stock Android (Pixel, Motorola, OnePlus). If you downloaded an image from the gallery, the Mobile sizes preset gives you a file already matched to your phone's resolution.
Step-by-step
- 1.
Open your image
Open the image in your phone's gallery app. This works whether the image came from the gallery download, AirDrop from another device, a file manager, or a link you saved.
- 2.
Tap the menu and choose Set as wallpaper
On Samsung: tap the three-dot menu in the bottom-right, then Set as wallpaper. On Pixel/stock: tap the three-dot menu at the top, then Use as → Wallpaper. You may see crop and position controls next.
- 3.
Choose lock screen, home screen, or both
Android asks where to apply it: Home screen, Lock screen, or Home and lock screen. Pick whichever you want. On Samsung, you can also tap Wallpaper services to set a dynamic wallpaper instead.
- 4.
Adjust and confirm
Pinch to zoom or drag to reposition the image. The preview shows exactly how it will look. When you're happy, tap Set wallpaper or the checkmark in the top-right corner.
- 5.
Alternative: long-press the home screen
Long-press an empty area on your home screen, tap Wallpaper and style (Samsung) or Wallpaper (stock Android). This takes you to the system wallpaper picker where you can browse preloaded images or tap My photos to pick from your gallery.

Common questions
Why does my wallpaper look blurry on Android?
The image probably has fewer pixels than your screen. Android stretches small images to fill the display, which causes softness. Use a file that matches your phone's resolution from the Mobile sizes table.
Can I set different wallpapers for lock screen and home screen?
Yes. When Android asks where to apply the wallpaper, tap Lock screen for one image and Home screen for another. You can run through the process twice with different images.
What is Wallpaper services on Samsung?
Wallpaper services lets you use dynamic or themed wallpapers from Samsung's built-in providers instead of a static image. You can still use a static image for the lock screen while using a dynamic wallpaper on the home screen.
For the sharpest result, match the image to your phone's resolution. The Mobile sizes button on any gallery wallpaper does this automatically, or paste a Pinterest link into /upscale and pick the Mobile preset.
